Now that I am officially done writing my first cookbook (it will be out January 2020) EKKK!

I am back in the kitchen making up recipes for the blog. I made this the other night and it was so good that my boyfriend asked me to make it a second night in a row.

Whip this up and then spoon-feed yourself this glorious dish.

You won’t regret it.

INGREDIENTS:

2 tbsp coconut oil

1 medium onion, diced

2-3 chopped medium-sized carrots

Salt and pepper

5 cloves garlic, minced

1-2 tsp grated fresh ginger

1-2 tbsp harissa paste

1/2 tsp smoked paprika

5 cups bite-sized, cubed sweet potato

1 (13.5oz) can of coconut cream

2 cups vegetable broth

1 (15 oz) can garbanzo beans

2-3 big handfuls of fresh spinach

GARNISH

Chopped fresh mint

Sliced green onions

Lime wedges

DIRECTIONS

In a medium soup pot, melt coconut oil over medium high heat. Once hit add onion & carrot, season generously with salt & black pepper. Stir occasionally for 3-5 mins.

Then add in the garlic & ginger, season again with salt & pepper and stir for 30 seconds.

Then add in the Harissa pasta, smoked paprika and the sweet potatoes. Stir to evenly coat the veggies. Cook for 7-8 minutes, stirring occasionally. Then add the coconut cream, vegetable broth and stir. Bring to a boil, cover and low to a simmer. Let simmer on low for 45min to 1 hour, covered, stirring once every 15 minutes.

Then stir well and using a spoon, mash some of the potato cubes. this makes it so creamy, thick and MF tasty.

Season again with salt and pepper to taste.

Add the garbanzo beans, spinach, mix well and taste test.

Adjust seasonings if desired.

Add garnishes on top before serving.

SPOON TO MOUTH!!!!!

Its Brussels Sprouts Season. I am thrilled. :)

Wanna know a funny story. When my boyfriend and I first started dating he told me he hated Brussels sprouts and never wanted to eat them. I told him everyone in their right mind loves Brussels and he probably just hasn't had them prepared correctly. Turns out I was right. Now that man requests them! Here is an easy, delicious banging Brussels salad.

INGREDIENTS:

SALAD:

  • 2 coconut oil

  • 1.5-2 lbs shaved Brussels Sprouts

  • salt and pepper to taste

  • 1-2 tsp onion powder

  • 1-2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 cup corn fresh off the cobb preferred, if in season, otherwise frozen

  • 2 cups roasted bite-size cubed sweet potatoes

  • 1 cup coconut bacon (store-bought or homemade)

DRESSING:

  • 3/4 cup toasted walnut oil

  • 1/4 red wine vinegar

  • 2 tbsp maple syrup

  • 2 tbsp Dijon Mustard

  • 2 Garlic cloves

  • salt & pepper to taste

GARNISH:

  • Toasted walnuts

  • Coconut Bacon

DIRECTIONS:

For the salad, heat the coconut oil in a large cast iron skillet over medium heat. Once hot add in the Brussels Sprouts. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring often. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder. Mix well and cook for another 10-15 minutes until the Sprouts are softened and cooked through. Transfer to a large mixing bowl.

Add the corn, roasted sweet potatoes, coconut bacon and the dressing to the bowl, then mix well. Garnish with toasted walnuts and more coconut bacon.

"I just need to control myself around food"

That is one of the most common things I hear from women who are struggling with post restriction binge eating.

It typically goes a little something like this...

We will be going about our day when something happens. We might feel stressed, anxious or sad and we end up eating something we said we weren't going to eat. Perhaps sugar or carbs of some kind.

Once we've realized we've broken a "food rule" we typically feel bad about ourselves and say "to hell with it" lets just eat all of things now, because we can start our diet again tomorrow (or Monday).

We prime ourselves to use all of our willpower to never let any "slip ups" happen again. We tell ourselves we will control ourselves so hard, we'll stick to our diet perfectly, we will finally lose the weight and everything will be okay.

Except it never really happens, does it? At least not for long.

If you're honest with yourself, you can see that every time you tightly grip onto restriction and control around food it's only a matter of time before you rebound in the other direction..., binge eating again.

This is the restrict-binge or diet-binge cycle,

or what some might refer to as Yo-Yo Dieting,

or "being on or off the wagon".

There is no amount of willpower or self control that will make this stop.

You can not control your way to Food Freedom. It's not called Food Control for a reason.

Think of someone you know who doesn't binge eat, who seems to have a pretty "normal" relationship with food, who can eat what they want, when they want and it's not really a big deal. They can casually have nachos and not feel like a disgusting pig and punish themselves with salad for the next week.

The difference between you and them is not willpower. They haven't developed the ability to ferociously fight the urge to eat an entire pizza in one sitting and that's why they stop at a few slices. Hell no.

***They are not trying to control themselves at all.***

And thank god because if Food Freedom mean't living in a constant state of fighting urges and controlling yourself at every meal, that wouldn't feel much like freedom at all. It would actually be exhausting.

So if it's not willpower and control what is it?

What's the difference between a "binge eater" and a "normal eater".

Well..., It's a function of a different mindset and way of thinking.

Anyone caught up in the diet-binge cycle is operating from the Diet Mentality which includes a set of beliefs, ideal and rules around food that have power over how we feel about our self.

Until we change what is going on in our mind, we can not change what is on our plate.
